zobaida, beautiful daughter of an arab merchant, goes to damascus to get back a sum lent by her father to a self-styled doctor, who, taking advantage of the situation, tries to seduce her, but the girl taunts herself and seeks the help of cadì, he too attracted, however, by his graces. even the grand vizier is no less than the other two. on the advice of a sage, the girl makes an appointment at the same time and in the same place with the three suitors, after having warned the caliph of a trap, to punish his unfaithful servants. the culprits will pay and the girl will marry the caliph, meanwhile in love with her.
