in progressive denmark, in which homosexuals are given the right to contract marriage, jakob asks his partner jorgen to marry him on the evening of his birthday. but the idyll and the promise are broken by the betrayal of jakob, who in the evening lets himself go to a passionate kiss with caroline, wife of the brother of the birthday boy. when the two lovers end up in bed, jorgen sees his life fall apart.
