il dottor antonio (1937)

during the uprisings of 1848 in italy, a southern doctor, exiled in liguria, meets to cure her and heals her a nice, sweet english girl. between the two a tender idyll arises that is interrupted by the sudden departure of the doctor for naples, where he goes to take part in the insurrectional motions. arrested, he was sentenced to several years in prison, but the tenacious english girl, who learned of his whereabouts, managed to corrupt a jailer and thus facilitate the prisoner's escape.
