16 Blocks (2006)

at 8:02 am, a new york police detective with a hangover, jack mosley, is charged with escorting a small criminal, eddie bunker from the 3rd police division to the tribunal in 100 center street, sixteen blocks away distance, where eddie must appear before the grand jury before 10:00, to testify in a minor crime case. jack will take fifteen minutes to leave him in court and get home. overweight and debilitated, with a sore leg and a serious alcohol problem, this is the last thing jack wants to do. for six years, he licked his wounds by isolating himself from the world, he went to work regularly and kept himself out of trouble. but that morning, he is in the wrong place at the wrong time. when jack drives eddie into the car and dives into the morning traffic, he has no idea that the next two hours will change his life. he does not understand the signal, not even the black van approaching him. jack closes eddie in the car and goes to breakfast in the liquor store across the street. it comes out just in time to prevent eddie from running, killing one killer and barely escaping another. jack and eddie go into an alley and go to a bar to call the police station and ask for reinforcements. when the murder inspector frank nugent arrives with jimmy mulvey, bobby torres and jerry shue, eddie turns pale: shue is the man against whom he must testify. nugent was paired with jack, they were great friends before years ago something between them went wrong throwing jack into a spiral of depression. nugent knows that eddie's testimony will have disastrous personal repercussions and explains it to jack. after all, they're both cops. try to convince jack to pretend he was taken hostage by eddie so he can kill him. a moment before nugent's team kills eddie, jack pulls the trigger, triggering a chain of events that will change the lives of everyone present.
