capitan fracassa (1940)

in the seventeenth century, in france, a nobleman who fell into misery joined a company of itinerant actors, taking the name of "captain fracassa". he falls in love with the young actress of the company, who however is kidnapped by a young gentleman who is hooked on her. the noble young man challenges the kidnapper to a duel, wounds him, but learns that he is the cousin of the girl. a short time later, in paris, the fallen nobleman was reinstated in the name and assets of his family.
