marco venier, returned to italy from africa, where he stayed for a long time, allies with marino, an opponent of the sarzese tyrant who dominates the area. they fall in love with angela, marino's sister, and sara, daughter of the weak viceroy. to avoid arrest, marco flees, but subjected to blackmail that relies on angela's imprisonment, retraces his steps and risks being executed if it were not for sara's sacrifice. after avenging himself on sarzese and freeing angela, he returns to africa.
