after an alien invasion, very little remained of the earth as it appeared before: men live in cities covered by domes and the rest is desert infested by strange semi-transparent beings capable of extracting the soul of men from bodies. for some, the only remedy is to bomb the planet with a satellite cannon; but for the scientist aki ross and dr. sid the earth is a living entity and the winning strategy would be to recover eight key spirits hidden within as many unidentified beings.
