mid 1800s in acireale. two lutheran religion scientists are called by the ambitious canon stupendo to build a sundial for a cathedral. peters and wittelsberg soon realize that a strange hostility surrounds their every action. indeed, at a certain point, the priest and the other canons will ask them to "correct" the mathematical calculations on purpose so as not to upset the rest of the dead, without explaining what mystery is hidden in this concern.
