the rich giacomo doni marries the young and orphan dorina, arousing the ire of elvira, her jealous cousin. when the two have a son, the wicked relative manages to convince giacomo that the child is the result of a betrayal of his wife. the poor man believes in it and, while discovering the truth, he is struck by a heart attack.
