i due foscari (1942)

republic of venice: contrasts and rivalries divide two noble families: the foscari and the faredano. when a foscari is elected doge, the rivalry becomes more intense and the deeper hatred so as to provoke, by anger, the death of the faredano cow; but his son swears revenge and, among intrigues and falsehoods, manages to have the young foscari accused of murder. with great difficulty and helped by his brother doge, the young man manages to demonstrate his innocence and make the mask fall off the faces of his accusers.
