to escape the raids of the germans, giacomo, a young man of rich family, hides in a cave, where every day a girl, giovanna, brings him food. during one of these visits, the woman gives him up, but after the war the young man no longer wants to know her and marries an aristocrat. meanwhile, giovanna becomes the mother of a child. after some time giacomo remains a widower without being able to give a grandson to his parents. when the grandfather discovers that there is a grandson on the other hand, he forces his son to take a woman and little son into the family. giacomo, who wants nothing else, willingly accepts the proposal.
