jacob the liar (1999)

during the second world war, in a nazi-occupied polish jewish ghetto, jakob heym accidentally listens to a forbidden radio bulletin that reports some victories of the red army on the german army. in a short time the news spread, together with the revelation that jakob owns a radio, a crime punishable by the death penalty. defying danger, jakob continues to make fake newsletters to keep hope alive among the ghetto inhabitants. but the gestapo learns of the radio and triggers a hunt for the clandestine listener.
