a love story between mario and giovanna: he is married and works in a bank, while she is a girl of humble origins who works as a manicure in livorno and is known for being an 'easy' girl. they meet for the first time in the train in the years preceding the second world war and from that moment a tormented relationship begins that, between abandonments and rapprochements, goes on until 1945.
