l'assedio dell'alcazar (1940)

the francoist garrison of toledo takes refuge in the alcazar, cadet academy, under the pressure of the republican forces. many civilians find refuge in the alcazar and the siege will last over two months, until the arrival of franco's nationalists and the liberation of the besieged. inside the fortress some destinies are fulfilled: that of two young lovers who will marry in extremis when the boy is mortally wounded; that of a gracious but fatuous madrid girl who falls in love with a captain, becoming aware of her useless existence, consoling and healing the wounded.
