the musician enrico loves lucia, a conservatory companion; one day a telegram arrives from the mother of the girl who calls her at her bedside because she is seriously ill, but she arrives too late finding her dead in childbirth. the half brother was born of an illegitimate relationship, but the girl decides to adopt him without thinking about the reaction his boyfriend might have. the young man becomes convinced that the child is the result of a fault of his girlfriend who, in order not to dishonor her mother's memory, does not deny and departs from him. after a few years the child's real father returns, recognizes his son and takes him with him; only then does the young musician recognize his wrongs and asks lucia to forgive him and marry him.
