in the medici of florence, neri and giannetto become bitter rivals to win the graces of the beautiful and available ginevra. after yet another hoax played by neri, giannetto plots another, managing to make the impetuous young man pass for madness and have him arrested, thus blowing off the woman. in prison, neri manages to be freed by a girl in love with him, meditating an atrocious revenge; but the most subtle giannetto has prepared a terrible trap, making neri's younger brother enter the rooms of the beautiful ginevra, also taken by passion for the woman. neri falls into the trap, accidentally killing his brother and, therefore, really going crazy.
