la favorita (1952)

the young fernando casually knows leonora, a beautiful girl, and falls hopelessly in love with him, even though he is hopeless as the girl is the favorite of the king of castile. when the sovereign learns that the two love each other, he decides to take revenge by marrying the two young men and then revealing to the man who married the king's favorite. fernando leaves the bride disappointed and then forgives her at the point of death.
