the christian knight tancredi is about to reach the armies of godfrey of bouillon about to attack jerusalem to free her, and meets the muslim warrior clorinda. love is born between the two, but they are separated as adversaries. during the battle for the liberation of the holy city, clorinda died invoking the name of the beloved tancredi.
