la lanterna del diavolo (1931)

the head of a band of smugglers loves a girl who instead has a crush on a good man from a small town near which the band meets. the smuggler, in a fit of jealousy, denounces his rival to the carabinieri who are looking for the murderer of one of their comrades. by hunting down the alleged murderer, the carabinieri instead surprise the whole gang in an abandoned house and thus make a copious raid. the bandits arrested, thinking they were betrayed by their leader, accuse him in turn as the real culprit of the murder. the unjustly suspected man can then safely return home.
