paul bracconier wants to kill his wife, a horrible hag who drinks, insults him and hardly ever washes, and to avoid risks, asks a lawyer for help, pretending to have already committed the murder. thanks to his advice, he first commits the crime, then, revealing to the judges the bad character of his wife (who wanted to kill him with rat poison) and centering his defense on the fact that the punishment had anticipated the crime, is acquitted and brought to triumph from his fellow citizens, who have derived a substantial increase in business from that news story.
