gianca and nick are two twenty-year-olds from bologna who met in 1994 in perugia during the stage for young umbria jazz musicians. they are twenty years old and both dream of a career: gianca playing the sax and trying to match the expectations of a father who has abandoned his artistic ambitions to become an affirmed accountant, nick devoting himself to his trumpet as a sort of revenge on a situation squalid and emotionally dry family. a friendship is born based on the contrast of two worlds but united by a common passion. nine years after having met on that train from bologna to perugia, the two boys will definitely close their common adventure at the great concert that nick will be holding at the teatro comunale in bologna, and to which gianca, confused among the public, will witness disturbed and moved. the piece that he himself had written with and for his friends when all was still expected of life is now a success, and will tie everyone's stories together forever: his title is 'but when do girls arrive?'.
