it is the eve of william parrish's birthday, media mogul. the younger daughter, susan, meets a guy far more charming than her boyfriend in a bar. in the evening he finds it in the guest house at dinner. presented as joe black, in reality the young man is the death who came to take the girl's father, but his mission will not be so simple. falling in love with susan, who returns his feelings with enthusiasm, joe black is tempted to take her with him.
