in 2020 a group of nasa astronauts successfully lands on mars, but after the arrival on the red planet of commander luke graham and his collaborators, an inexplicable disaster decimates the crew. graham has only time to send a s.o.s. on earth, starting a rescue mission led by pilots woody blake and jim mcconnell, which also includes dr. terry fisher and scientist ohlmeyer. during the next six months, the 'mars recovery' mission will attempt to understand what happened and to bring the survivors back to base.
