the arpel live in a villa equipped with ultra-modern comforts: the father is an industrialist with very regulated habits; the mother is a housewife struggling with science fiction appliances; the son is a boy who can't wait to be together with his maternal uncle, hulot, who lives in a house in the old quarter, surrounded by the affection and joy of his neighbors. the trouble starts when mr. arpel tries to find a job for the eccentric brother-in-law.
