the artist stu is about to celebrate with his girlfriend julie the debut in a tv series of his character monkeybone, an irresistibly spiteful little monkey; but an accident that reduces him to a coma forces his spirit to face a journey to downtown, carnival purgatory where he meets his creature, and first stop towards thanatopolis, point of arrival of the souls of the dead.
