once upon a time in the midlands (2002)

when on tv jimmy sees dek making a proposal of marriage to his ex, he rushes into the city with a single thought: to win back the woman and the child he abandoned. dek and shirley live together with her daughter marlene, whom she had twelve years ago from jimmy, then disappeared without a trace. dek loves shirley so much that he thinks he will do something pleasing to her, proposing, unbeknownst to her, marriage on live national television. shirley remains embarrassed: what all her acquaintances will think seeing her in a silly tv show for fake couples. jimmy also attends the show and returns to the city, convinced that his awkward rival doesn't even have a chance against his charm. shirley seems destined to succumb to the tight court of her lost love jimmy, but the two have not reckoned with their respective families and with dek's determination.
