at the heart of the story is sandro, a twelve-year-old boy who grew up in a wealthy brescia family. the father is a small entrepreneur, the mother also works in the company, in the administration. during a cruise on a sailing boat in the mediterranean, sandro falls at night at sea. when others notice it and come back, they can no longer find it; with horror they realize that the child must be drowned. instead he managed to save himself. now at the end of his strength, sandro is spotted by a boat of illegal migrants. defying the anger of the smugglers who would like to keep going, someone dives and pulls him on board. it's radu, a seventeen-year-old romanian boy who travels with his younger sister, alina. it is the beginning for sandro of an adventurous journey back to italy.
