stanley and iris (1990)

stanley cox is a cooker in a bakery-pastry shop: he loves and cares for his sick father, but he is haunted by an embarrassing secret that made him grow lonely and melancholy: he is illiterate, he can't even read road signs. but iris king notices, a widow who works in the same store and who notices her difficulty in recognizing an aspirin tube. despite his enormous problems, he can't forget his husband and he has great difficulties with his eldest, turbulent and rebellious daughter, he decides to commit himself to helping stanley, to get him out of his isolation. but to do this it must first succeed in overcoming the enormous distrust of man towards others.
