suez (1938)

fictionalized history of ferdinand delesseps, a french engineer of noble lineage who first had the idea of ??a canal that linked the red sea with the mediterranean. son of the french ambassador in cairo, lesseps is in love with eugenia, who will become the wife of napoleon iii. disappointed by this lack of love, delesseps dedicates himself to the idea of ??the channel and begins work. but when the time comes to a close, the government cuts funding. the engineer then turns to the british government and finds the love of a beautiful girl of mixed blood.
