the sleepy existence of the inhabitants of donegal, a village on the irish coast, is upset when kieran and his bachelor friends organize a beauty contest for aspiring american queens, hoping to find love. waiting for the event, the men and women of the village are swept away by the atmosphere of seduction: kieran reaches seven push-ups a day, ollie wants sex repetitions, the rough bartender pat adorns his pub with flowers.
