the tailor of panama (2001)

the englishman andy osnard is a secret agent from the murky past and when he is sent to panama it is because his british government hopes to get rid of an inconvenient employee. the mission entrusted to him is in fact far from desirable: to keep an eye on the channel that the usa sold to the panamanians, controlling one of the main arteries of world traffic. osnard is looking for an informant and finds him in harry, a well-known tailor who dresses the most important personalities of the place and whose wife louisa works in the administration of the canal. harry has a history of fraud and, under the threat that this is revealed to his wife, tells andy a story according to which the panamanian ministers are going to sell the channel in secret. the news is completely bogus, but andy takes it as good and communicates it to the london government triggering a reaction that could lead to an international accident and seriously endangering the lives of harry and his family.
