The Woodsman (2004)

after spending twelve years in prison, walter arrives in an anonymous town, moves to a small apartment in front of an elementary school, getting a job at an outdoor lumber yard and most of the time he stays on their own. quiet but still circumspect like all men who hide a great secret, walter finds an unexpected comfort in vickie, a self-confident woman who promises not to judge him, whatever he has done. but despite the presence of vickie is the only beautiful thing that has happened to him in the last 12 years, walter cannot escape the past. he carries with him the most horrible of secrets caused by the most terrible of crimes. sentenced to 12 years in prison for pedophilia, walter is consumed by the mistakes of the past that deny him "normality" in the present. it is 'damaged goods' as a work colleague calls it contemptuous. but walter is also a man who not only seeks to rehabilitate himself, but also to redeem himself in the eyes of a sister who no longer wants to see him and a society that would prefer to know that he is dead rather than reintegrated.
