The Wrong Man (1956)

a young man surprises a petty thief while he is about to steal, catches him and, while leading him to the police station, has an altercation with him and they both end up in the guardroom. the girlfriend of the young man, who waits for him worried for the delay, goes to his research and finds him while he is moving away from prison, having managed to escape due to the criminal. the two go home invited to lunch, but on the most beautiful arrives the uncle of the girl who recognizes the thief, having participated in the morning in pursuit to arrest him; the uncle would like to bring him to justice, but the thief returns all the stolen goods, pretending to be repentant, and goes away free.
