Travelers and Magicians (2003)

in the pristine splendor of the small kingdom of bhutan, in the himalayas, the story follows the story of dondup, a young and attractive government official who has been assigned a post in a rural area. but dondup is not at all happy with his new position, in fact he dreams of leaving bhutan to go to the west, where he believes he will be able to find everything he is looking for. the occasion arrives, but has a deadline. dodup seizes the moment, mind to his boss, throws the suitcase from the window and departs hastily, but unfortunately a moment too late. in fact, he loses the bus that would take him to the nearby city of thimpu and, unwillingly, finds himself on the road with two other travelers going to the same place: a buddhist monk and an apple seller. dondup's fear of spending the night under the stars alone causes him to put aside the arrogant attitude he has towards his fellow travelers and joins them around the bonfire they lit on the side of the road. accompanied by the monk's stories, finding someone to offer them a ride becomes a real mission for the trio, and walking to thimphu seems to be their destiny. along the way they encounter a series of very picturesque characters, but when dondup sees the beautiful sonam, his certainties begin to falter as well as his steps.
