kihachi's crew arrives in a small country town, where he had once had an affair with otsune, from whom shinkichi was born. otaka, the current companion of kihachi, discovers the reasons that led the man to return to the village. jealous, she asks the young and beautiful otoki to seduce shinkichi, who believes that kihachi is his uncle. otoki performs but the two young people really fall in love with each other. furious, kihachi harshly reproaches the two women. meanwhile the troupe goes into bankruptcy and is forced to sell everything. while kihachi visits otsune, shinkichi and otoki arrive: father and son are bitterly confronted with the revelation of kihachi's true identity. the son harshly replies that he does not need a father. at the kihachi station he meets otaka and leaves with her on the same train.
