un garibaldino al convento (1942)

in the convent of santa rossana, at the dawn of the risorgimento, a young garibaldino wounded after a bloody clash with the bourbon gendarmes found refuge and was hidden by the guardian, a fervent patriot, in his own home without the sisters' knowledge. he is also helped by two young girls, one of whom, sweet and quiet, is his girlfriend, the other, of a rebellious but very generous nature: both are always in dispute because of the hostility between their respective families, close to house, but of different caste, noble the first and bourgeois the second. the gendarmes in search of the wounded fugitive enter the convent creating discomforts and fears among the unsuspecting nuns and they discover the hiding place of the young creating a state of siege in the house of the guardian. the youngest of the two girls takes a horse and escapes from the convent, succeeding in reaching the garibaldi troops and convincing them to bring relief to their wounded fellow soldier. the convent is cleared of the gendarmes, the wounded freed, the two girls cancel the hatred that divides them, becoming inseparable friends, even if the girlfriend will never again meet her beloved garibaldian.
