dopo che la sua fidanzata è stata uccisa, alexander hatdegen decide di viaggiare nel tempo. schivata a malapena una new york del 2037 su cui stanno piovendo giganti frammenti di luna, lo scienziato si ritrova 800000 anni nel futuro. in questo nuovo mondo vivono gli eloi, una popolazione multiculturale che vive in conchiglie trasparenti appese alla roccia. miti e ignoranti, gli eloi sono regolari vittime dei morlock, irsuti mostri che vivono sottoterra, mangiano umani e sono comandati da un capo estremamente intelligente.
